Acme Packet’s Net-Net 2600 is an integrated session border controller platform for enterprises and IP contact centers requiring control for 150 up to 4000 simultaneous signaled VoIP/Unified Communications (UC) sessions. The platform operates Acme Packet’s Net-Net OS-Enterprise (Net-Net OS-E) to provide all of the critical controls for delivering trusted, first class interactive communications—voice, video and multimedia sessions—across IP network borders. These controls span five areas - security, service/application reach maximization, SLA assurance, regulatory compliance and cost management. The Net-Net 2600 complements Acme Packet’s 3800, 4000 and 9200 series platforms to produce the industry’s most scalable and comprehensive set of session border control solutions. For enterprises and contact centers, the Net-Net 2600 secures the high quality delivery of a broad range of interactive communications services and applications ranging from basic VoIP to Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)-enabled unified communications. It secures the SIP/H.323 trunking border to service provider IP networks and the Internet border to remote offices, teleworkers and mobile employees. In extremely security-conscious organizations, the Net-Net 2600 even secures the border to the private VPN connecting other sites. The SIP and H.323 interworking and transcoding capabilities of the Net-Net 2600 ensure support for a variety of endpoints, as well as interoperability with and between legacy IP PBX equipment and next-generation unified communications platforms. The Net-Net 2600 controls session admission, IP PBX or UC server loads and overloads, IP network transport and SIP/H.323 session routing to assure SLAs and minimize costs. Regulatory compliance requirements are also satisfied with encryption ensuring session privacy and call/session replication for recording on the SBC or separate recording servers.
Net-Net OS-E for SBC in the enterprise and contact center
The Net-Net 2600 operates Acme Packet’s Net-Net OS-E, offering a broad range of integrated session border control functionality in many dimensions:
- Session control protocols – SIP, H.323 and SIP-H.323 IWF
- Security – Net-SAFE: SBC DoS/DDoS protection, access control, topology hiding, VPN separation, privacy; virus and SPIT protection; service and application infrastructure DoS prevention; fraud prevention; monitoring and reporting
- Service and application reach – NAT traversal; IP address translation – private-public, OLIP/VPN bridging, IPv4-IPv6; number and URI manipulation; signaling message header manipulation; protocol interworking - signaling, transport and encryption protocols; response code translations; SDP and DTMF manipulation; transcoding
- SLA assurance – admission control – signaling and bandwidth constraints per user, network or session agent; signaling overload control; transport control – QoS marking/VLAN mapping, peer-peer media release; QoS and ASR routing and reporting; network element (L3 router, registrar, session agent) failure discovery, re-routing and/or load balancing
- Regulatory compliance – on-board and selective session replication for recording
- Cost management– accounting; routing – LCR, ENUM, by codec; service theft protection - bandwidth policing, QoS marking; session timers; service core normalization
- High availability – checkpointing of media and signaling state ensures no loss of active sessions, or state required for NAT traversal, session handling (transfer/hold, etc.) or accounting
- Management – embedded browser-based configuration and call tracing, Net-Net EMS, CLI, telnet, FTP, XML, RADIUS, SNMP, syslog
Net-SAFE™, Acme Packet’s security framework, features powerful denial-of-service/distributed denial-of service protection at the layer 3, layer 4, and SIP signaling level, and intrusion detection/prevention capabilities. Other security features support dynamic access control, topology hiding, privacy and confidentiality, service and application infrastructure DoS/DDoS protection, virus and SPIT protection, and fraud prevention.
Net-Net EMS, a GUI/browser-based client/server application supporting configuration, fault, performance and security management for multiple border elements in multiple networks, is one of many management tools available. Net-Net EMS can efficiently integrate into existing and next-generation enterprise management or service provider operational support systems through industry-standard SOAP/XML, SNMP v2c and syslog interfaces. Other management tools include command line interface (CLI), telnet, file transfer protocol (FTP) and RADIUS.
Net-Net 2600 capacity, performance and availability
The Net-Net 2600 satisfies enterprise and contact center SBC capacity and performance requirements without sacrificing functionality or high availability operation for non-stop service. It complements Acme Packet’s Net-Net 3000, 4000 and 9000 series platforms.
- Session capacity* – up to 4,000 simultaneous signaled sessions
- High-availability (HA) configuration – active/standby systems (1:1 redundancy) with check-pointing of signaling, media and configuration state for no loss of service
- Local route table entries – up to 1,000,000 routes
- TLS and SRTP encryption
- TLS connections – up to 4,000 sessions
- SRTP – up to 1,000 sessions
- Transcoding– up to 400 sessions; codecs: G.711, G.726, GSM FR, iLBC, G.723.1, G.729a, G.722.1 and AMR Narrowband
- Network interfaces – up to six (Net-Net 2610) or twelve (Net-Net 2620) active 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet interfaces (copper or fiber)
- System throughput – 5 Gbps
* Performance and capacity vary by signaling protocol, call flow, codec, configuration and feature usage.
The Net-Net 2600 is available in two models which only differ in chassis size, number of AC power supplies, storage redundancy and number of network interfaces (Table 1).
